The Wisconsin Asphalt Industry Insider is a platform for WAPA members to share what's new and exciting at their companies with pavement owners, operators, and contractors across our state. We hope you find this information useful! | | Hitek Brings Globally Proven RAP Shredding Technology to the U.S. | | |
Hitek Construction Equipment is bringing two exciting developments to the asphalt industry in 2026: the CAMS Centauro RAP shredder and the new MGE asphalt paver.
While the Centauro is new to the U.S. market, the technology is already proven internationally. CAMS shredding systems have been used worldwide, and Hitek is now introducing this alternative approach to RAP processing to American asphalt producers.
Instead of relying on high-impact crushing, the Centauro uses slow-speed shredding to shred, screen and separate RAP in one system. This process is designed to reduce unnecessary aggregate fracture, preserve more of the valuable bitumen contained in the RAP, minimize fines, and dramatically reduce airborne dust. The Centauro also offers hybrid power capability, allowing operation with its onboard diesel engine or external electric power, giving producers flexibility while helping reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and operating costs when electric power is available.
Hitek can support both mobile and stationary RAP-processing applications. In addition to mobile Centauro systems, Hitek offers electric stationary shredding solutions and can work with producers on plant layout and system design to integrate RAP shredding directly into an existing or new asphalt production facility.
Hitek is also introducing the new MG7E model from MG. Hitek has represented MG paving equipment for more than a decade, and the MG7E brings the newest generation of that proven product line to contractors.
Proven around the world. Now coming to the U.S.
Shredding RAP. Not Crushing It.
| | Wis-Coat Continues to Grow On the Pavement and Beyond | | |
Wis-Coat Asphalt Maintenance continues to build on its roots in Wisconsin while finding new ways to serve, promote, and strengthen the asphalt industry.
Based in the Spring Green/Richland Center area, Wis-Coat provides pavement maintenance services including asphalt sealcoating, crack sealing, and pavement marking for commercial, industrial, and other properties throughout the region. The company continues to invest in equipment, technology, and processes that help its crews deliver professional pavement maintenance solutions for customers across Wisconsin.
But our involvement in the asphalt industry extends beyond the work happening in the field.
Through In The Mix, Wis-Coat owner Marvin Joles has continued traveling the country telling the stories of the people, contractors, manufacturers, and organizations moving the asphalt and construction industries forward. That work has created opportunities to showcase the industry through podcasts, social media, equipment demonstrations, educational content, and conversations with industry leaders across North America.
For Wis-Coat, the efforts share the same goal: to help demonstrate the opportunities available within the asphalt industry and to encourage the next generation to become part of it.
Whether we're maintaining pavement in Wisconsin or sharing the industry's stories with audiences around the country, we believe strongly in one message:
Asphalt is opportunity.

| Delivering Stronger, High Quality and More Durable Construction Solutions | | |
Highway 181 was experiencing significant pavement failure at an intersection on the west side of Mequon. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) partnered with the Ozaukee County Highway Department to develop a short-term rehabilitation strategy intended to extend the pavement life by five years until a more permanent reconstruction could be completed.
Given the condition of the existing pavement, both WisDOT and Ozaukee County considered the five-year goal to be optimistic. Ozaukee County recommended incorporating FORTA-FI® fiber-reinforced asphalt as part of the rehabilitation strategy.
The project utilized a “scratch-and-fill” approach, milling approximately one inch of pavement at the intersection while placing a direct overlay across the remainder of the project. At the two-year mark, crack sealing was performed as part of routine maintenance. Now, three years after construction, the pavement continues to perform well, with current conditions indicating that the fiber-reinforced asphalt will reach its five-year goal. The area maintenance coordinator for the project said, “I cannot say I fully believed the overlay would work – I think the fibers in the asphalt helped it tremendously.”

| | The Warm Mix Advantage for Wisconsin Roads | | |
As Wisconsin agencies and contractors look to extend paving seasons, deliver high-quality pavements and support sustainability goals, warm mix asphalt technologies continue to gain momentum. Cargill™ Anova® 1501 warm mix and compaction aid is designed to help producers lower mixing and paving temperatures while improving coating, workability, and compaction. By reducing asphalt binder viscosity during production and placement, Anova 1501 can support density achievement, even in cooler weather conditions and on longer hauls common throughout Wisconsin.
Designed for compatibility with existing plant operations, Anova 1501 can help asphalt producers reduce fuel consumption and associated emissions while supporting pavement quality and construction efficiency. Its compaction benefits can also help contractors more efficiently achieve target densities across a variety of paving conditions.
Beyond paving performance, Anova 1501 offers practical advantages for plant and field operations. Its low-odor, low-fume formulation, combined with its non-hazardous and non-corrosive profile, supports an improved working environment for plant personnel and paving crews.
Partner with Cargill and leverage Cargill's expertise with Anova® 1501, a warm mix solution designed to help meet the demands of today's asphalt projects and support construction of high-quality roads built to withstand Wisconsin's challenging climate.

| Non-Nuclear Density Gauges: Two Models, Different Workflows, One Trusted Technology | | |
Choose the level of capability your paving crew needs. TransTech Systems expands possibilities for our customers by offering non-nuclear asphalt density gauges designed around distinct field requirements and paving workflows.
Our flagship PQI 380+ remains the premium choice for comprehensive quality control. The PQI 380+ features an integrated mat temperature sensor, built-in GPS, four operating modes, portable printing, and massive data storage. When combined with TransTech Connect, the PQI 380+ provides a complete density data management solution. This includes real-time data uploads, cloud-based management, and the ability to link measurements to supported stationing platforms. For larger highway and municipal projects where detailed tracking, documentation, and remote visibility are essential, the PQI 380+ delivers the ultimate tools to manage the entire density QC workflow.
But not every crew requires those advanced capabilities. For smaller paving teams, rapid response contractors, or operators who simply want a fast density reading and nothing more, we are introducing the PQI 380go. The PQI 380go is custom-built to be picked up and go. By eliminating data logging, temperature readings, GPS, cloud connectivity, and onboard storage, it focuses purely on what these crews value most: fast, reliable, on-the-spot density measurements. Featuring Single and Continuous operating modes and the same trusted TransTech technology, it delivers dependable field readings every time.
Whether your crew needs the comprehensive data tracking and connectivity of the PQI 380+, or the straightforward, grab-and-go simplicity of the PQI 380go, TransTech Systems has a gauge designed to fit your job perfectly.
