MBR offers the latest equipment for getting the job done

The highway-class BOMAG CR 1030 Series 10-foot track paver features multiple design updates that improve operating efficiency and increase mat quality by reducing segregation occurrence.

The new human-machine interface features grouped functions on tractor console and a new screed control system with integrated MOBA automation features. For the console, similar functions such as the hopper, screed and feed controls are grouped together to allow the operator to make identifications and adjustments more quickly. The large, 7-inch multifunction color screen display at each console boasts a new experience for the operator with multiple configurable detailed screens.

New for the CR 1030T Series is the independent auger/conveyor system, with a proven outboard auger drive systemThis new design allows the conveyors and auger to run independently of each other, with a 2-sensor or optional 4-sensor control system. The raisable or fixed outboard driven auger system will vastly improve visibility into the conveyor discharge area, as well as eliminate segregation in that area, resulting in better mat quality.

The new Versa 20 front-mount electric screed offers infinitely variable paving widths ranging from 10 feet to 19 feet at paving thicknesses reaching 12 inches. The screed comes standard with a 10-foot catwalk and foldable walkway extensions for the operator. The 11-inch-deep hydraulic extensions, with manually adjustable angle of attack, allow for better density and mat quality than others in the front mount class. The new Versa 20 is designed to better maintain setting adjustments between the main frame and extensions for a more consistent mat texture across the entire paving width.

Your one-stop resource for balanced mix design success

Instrotek image

Over the past 11 years, InstroTek®, Inc. has become a trusted leader in balanced mix design (BMD) testing by doing more than simply manufacturing equipment. The company has combined innovative technology with hands-on expertise and responsive customer support to help asphalt labs confidently implement and expand their BMD programs.

From sample preparation and conditioning to performance testing and analysis, InstroTek has built a complete system of proven solutions designed specifically for the evolving demands of BMD. Their product lineup — including the Smartracker™ Hamburg Wheel Tracker, which makes rutting and moisture susceptibility testing safer, easier, and more accurate than many higher-cost systems, and the SmartLoader™, preprogrammed for a range of BMD protocols such as IDEAL-CT (Cracking), IDEAL-RT (Rutting), IFIT, and LSU SCB — delivers reliable, repeatable results while simplifying complex testing procedures. That leadership is further strengthened by the resources of sister company HMA Lab Supply®. Together, InstroTek & HMA Lab Supply provide a true one-stop shop for asphalt laboratories. In addition to advanced testing equipment, customers have access to a comprehensive catalog of lab supplies, accessories, and consumables—everything needed to keep a BMD program running smoothly and efficiently.

But what truly sets the partnership apart is the people behind it. If your lab is preparing to implement BMD or strengthen an existing program, contact your representative, Josh Shank at jshank@instrotek.com, 419-651-9935 for the expertise, equipment, and support you need.

Saving money starts at the mat: From compaction to cost control

Timely and accurate asphalt density measurements remain a key factor in delivering durable, high-quality pavements. As construction teams know, projects are data-driven, and many contractors are adopting digital tools to streamline how compaction data is collected, shared, and reviewed in the field.

Today’s PQI 380+, non-nuclear asphalt density gauge, can be paired with the TransTech Connect cloud-based app, allowing technicians to record compaction measurements and upload them instantly using Bluetooth or a Wi-Fi hotspot. This approach gives quality control staff and project managers near real-time visibility into density results as rolling operations are underway.

With faster access to this information, crews can identify potential compaction issues earlier and adjust rolling patterns before they affect larger portions of the mat. In addition to density values, the system can also capture supporting data such as GPS location, time and date stamps, and weather conditions, providing added context when reviewing results or responding to project requirements.

For owners, the shift away from manual data recording can help reduce paperwork, improve consistency in reporting, support clearer communication between field and office teams, and may ultimately save thousands of dollars on a project. It may also help minimize rework and the costs associated with late-stage corrections.

As project stakeholders continue to place greater emphasis on documentation and accountability, real-time data collection tools are an increasingly common part of asphalt paving operations. Contractors will find that incorporating these technologies can enhance both quality control efforts and overall project efficiency.

You just didn’t get that kind of insight into what your field guy was seeing before. You were working on a limited data set.”

Breaking down data silos: How HaulHub and WisDOT are modernizing project delivery and work zone safety

Since 2023, HaulHub has partnered with WisDOT to bring digital inspection and material delivery documentation to Wisconsin construction projects through the E-DOT platform. For asphalt contractors and material suppliers, participation is free and requires no changes to existing field operations.

Wisconsin's program has grown steadily as contractors and suppliers have experienced the operational benefits firsthand: from 23 projects, seven suppliers, and 18,000 digital tickets in 2024 to 46 projects, 14 suppliers, and 37,000 digital tickets in 2025, with nearly 70 projects anticipated this season. And the platform is delivering more than documentation efficiency.

Project setup automatically establishes a work zone boundary that broadcasts worker presence to motorists through Waze/Google and the Work Zone Data Exchange in real time, keeping crews safer without any additional burden on contractors or inspectors. Mathy Construction Company took that further last season, connecting paver and roller telematics to broadcast worker presence during active paving operations, protecting crews from data the equipment was already generating.

That same connected data environment is now opening new doors for contractor project teams. As of April 2026, contractors have complimentary read-only access to E-DOT, putting ticket data, equipment activity, digital stationing, and inspection records across all active projects directly in their hands for the first time. HaulHub is honored to work alongside Wisconsin's construction industry as a partner in driving more efficient, effective, and safer jobsites across the state.
