WELCOME TO WAPA
The nonprofit Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association represents Wisconsin’s asphalt industry. This Web site is a resource for our members (some 80 contractors and manufacturers), their customers and the public at large. Make this your first stop for information on hot mix asphalt in Wisconsin.

Now Online: Asphalt Institute's Webinar Library
The Asphalt Institute recently announced that its full offering of recorded Asphalt Academy webinars is online. You can register to view these recorded webinars, which count toward professional development hours. AI's webinar library addresses a wide range of topics, including asphalt binders, emulsions, pavement design, construction, testing, inspection, and preservation.
NAPA's Greenhouse Gas Calculator
NAPA's Greenhouse Gas Calculator is a user-friendly Web tool that analyzes gate-to-gate greenhouse gas emissions related to asphalt pavement manufacturing. The interface provides drop-down lists of typical fuels that are linked to greenhouse gas emission factors, expressed as carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e).
The 2012 update to the calculator adds emission offset credits for those fuels and activities that either reduce the amount of CO2e released or that sequester CO2.
National best practices on HMA recycling
In-place recycling and reclamation of asphalt pavements helps highway agencies optimize the value of in-place materials, minimize construction time and traffic flow disruptions, and reduce the number of construction vehicles moving in and out of the construction area.
The Transportation Research Board has published NCHRP Synthesis 421: Recycling and Reclamation of Asphalt Pavements Using In-Place Methods, which examines national best practices in the use of hot in-place recycling, cold in-place recycling, and full-depth reclamation of asphalt pavements.
NCAT highlight video
The research center and test track at Auburn University's National Center for Asphalt Technology help make NCAT one of the world's leading institutions for asphalt pavement research and an important source of information for advancing asphalt pavement technology. This video highlights pavement engineering and asphalt research at NCAT, including materials and field testing and forensic analysis.
Guidance from APA: Asphalt's Carbon Footprint
The Asphalt Pavement Alliance recently published a brief titled Carbon Footprint - How does asphalt stack up? The publication examines greenhouse gas production of asphalt and concrete pavements. The analysis shows clearly that asphalt has a much lower carbon footprint than concrete. When it comes to pavement, asphalt is the more sustainable choice.
